Inaugurated by Director General IAEA Dr.Mohamed El Baradei
“The first indigenous unit, named Bhabhatron-I, was commissioned at ACTREC, Navi Mumbai in March 2005. Subsequently, in collaboration with M/s Panacea Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, a number of changes are implemented. The present unit named Bhabhatron-II is made compact, and clinical performances are improved further. However, the cost of the new unit remains the same, approx. half of the price of similar imported machines. The performances of this indigenous unit are at par with the latest imported units. Fully closable collimator is one of its unique features. During any emergency condition, the collimator gets closed fully, protecting the patient from over-exposure of radiation. All operations are fully computer controlled to facilitate enhanced user-friendliness, radiation safety and security.
The machine has a battery back-up for use in rural areas, better performance parameters and improved user interface. An MoU was signed between IAEA, India and Vietnam for BARC to supply and install one Bhabhatron-II at Can Tho General Hospital in Vietnam. In this context, Chairman, AEC has handed over a model of Bhabhatron-II to Dr.Mohamed El Baradei, Director-General of IAEA during his visit to India at a function organized by ACTREC at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.”
